I hate Star Trek

I have been wandering around on the web. One of the most irksome things I've seen are idiots attributing quotes to the writers of Star Trek, or even worse, to Star Trek characters. One lemming had attributed a quote to Captain Jean-Luc Picard that is, in fact, wholly the work of William Shakespeare.

This leads me to today's distressing Thought for the Day.

In a thousand years, the bulk of the great works of literature will be attributed to Jean-Luc Picard.

That's alright. After all, didn't Shakespeare nick his works off of a thousand monkeys, typing endlessly?

erm, in fact, the infinite monkeys seem to be the goons tapping gibberish into the internet, in between staring at naked women, playing Flash games, circulating viruses, and reading my blog!

So is this distinction between High and Low culture, which in my opinion is so typical for Germany, justified after all? I know a guy who has a job at the university here comipling dictionaries on classical German literture, yet in his spare time he collects "star wars fact files"? I'm puzzled... Does a "canon" make sense after all? I always though the call for it is just a reactionary impulse that comes from an unability to stomach postmodern ideas (?)....

nope, nothing to do with high and low culture, i just find it worrying that people of the future will think that Jean Luc-Picard wrote Romeo and Juliet.

i would hate star trek to form a large part (or any part, in truth) of the intellectual legacy of the 21st century (shudders), as i resent the values, the acting, the ludicrous aliens, the writing, the costumes, EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING, about this INFERNAL HEAP OF DUNG!

ahem, i feel better now

i can only quote whatsis-face, the commander in chief of the first s.t. debacle, when confronted with stark barking mad fans at a convention:

"Don't you people have a LIFE?"

*oh and uh... i guess that would be 'Qur'an'...(ok, ok, i wasn't going to say anything, but sheesh!)*
